Abstract
Purpose
Over the last 100 years, research on interlocking directorates has proliferated. The purpose of this paper is to realize a bibliometric analysis of articles on interlocking directorates to identify the evolutionary patterns that characterize the studies on board interlocks.
Design/methodology/approach
A bibliometric analysis of articles on interlocking directorates published since 1914 was realized to evidence how research has evolved over time. Papers were classified according to the research topic, the type of article and the use of different theories to explain board interlocks’ causes and effects.
Findings
The authors identified four different periods that characterize board interlocks studies: the emerging debate, the earliest modern era, the modern era and the post-modern era.
Originality/value
This bibliometric analysis assesses the extant literature by highlighting emerging trends and identifying several avenues for future research.

Abstract
Purpose
Most articles in the field of management evidence that knowledge transfer enhances firms’ innovation, productivity and employment. Despite of the amount of studies a systematization of dimensions of knowledge transfer and its effects on firms sustainability is still absent. The purpose of this paper is to fill this literature gap.
Design/methodology/approach
The author proposes a conceptual paper aimed to provide a framework for classifying knowledge transfer and its effects on firms’ competitiveness.
Findings
The paper provides a conceptual paper on the role of innovation for sustainability.
Originality/value
The author’s perspective on knowledge for sustainability is a topic of great interest for managers, practitioners and policy-makers.

Abstract
Purpose
The study examines how the interactions among three prominent institutional logics—state, market and religion—fundamentally shape the patterns of individuals’ engagement in social entrepreneurship (SE).
Design/methodology/approach
The study develops a configurational theoretical framework and uses fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis to test the hypotheses by gathering data on social ventures from 35 countries from the World Values Survey and Global Entrepreneurship Monitor.
Findings
The results show that the prevalence of social entrepreneurial ventures is enabled by different combinations of logics of action, governance mechanisms, strength of religious beliefs and religious pluralism.
Originality/value
This research reveals that the relationship between institutional logic profiles and SE is contingent on the coherence between different institutional logics.

Abstract
The multipolar configuration of the current economic context has led management scholars to reconsider the existing theoretical perspectives that explain drivers and effects of mergers and acquisitions (M&As).
The combination of structures, systems, processes and people imposed by M&A is a complex process that needs to be properly managed. This process can be divided into three phases of pre-combination, combination and post-combination. It evidences the dilemma of integrating two distinct firms and preserving their specific identities. In cross-border M&A, differences in organizational cultures increase the complexity of the integrative process and make it difficult for the companies that proceed to the merger to reach the preordained synergies, where the problem linked to the diversity of the national culture is added. A successful integration process allows to treat the elements of diversity as opportunities and not as obstacles.

Abstract
Purpose
In the last years global economy has become more integrated and multidirectional. Thus, in a world characterized by multiples center of economic power, firms need to define multipolar strategies based on geographical diversification in several countries that makes them able to compete with everyone, from everywhere and for everything. Despite of the relevance of such strategies, literature on this topic is almost absent. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
Considering the exploratory nature of the research objectives, the authors present a case study for highlighting the main challenges of cross-border M & A under multipolar-world pressures.
Findings
The paper evidences new trends in economic geography and multipolar strategies.
Originality/value
The paper offers a new perspective on multipolar strategies.
